Cody, Wyoming
After making our way through the beautiful Bighorn Mountains, we stopped for the night in Cody, Wyoming. Even though it was still early in the day and we could have easily made it on into Yellowstone, we wanted to spend the night in the famous Irma Hotel. This hotel is steeped in history... it was built by William F. "Buffalo Bill" Cody, the city's co-founder and namesake who named it after his daughter Irma Cody. To us, it is simply amazing to look at extremely old images of the hotel where horses and buggies are everywhere and then know we stayed in this same hotel!The inside of the hotel is fantastic. Our room still had the enormous old tub from back in the day, the decor is still the same and restaurant still has the old bar in it. The rates for a nightly stay were very reasonable, even less than some of the chain motels nearby. Why in the world would you want to stay in a Holiday Inn when the Irma Hotel is right down the road?! Different strokes for different folks, I guess. We enjoyed looking around Cody, feasting on a Buffalo Burger and watching the gunfight in the street (put on by the hotel). We are very glad we took the time to spend the night in Cody.
